Robert L. (Bob) Fischer of Titusville, Florida, Passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Parrish Medical Center with his wife Betty, and loving family by his side. He was born November 26, 1925 in Lakewood, Ohio.

Bob enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in 1943, and after high school graduation, was called into service to begin Aviation Cadet training. After training at various facilities, he was assigned to the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center (SAACC) in Texas, where upon graduation, he received his Aviation Cadet Wings. He continued to train in various positions and received a U.S. Army Air Corps Flight Officer Commission and his wings as a B-29 Flight Engineer.

In 1945, Bob received a Bachelor Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Colorado University in Boulder, CO. In May 1946, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps(now U.S. Air Force) and continued with the Air Corps Reserves. He resigned from the Air Force Reserve in September 1949.

Soon after he began his career in engineering with various companies in the Midwest, and wrote and published several technical publication on cryogenics. His engineering expertise led him to Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where he worked for several NASA contractors throughout the Apollo (Man on the Moon) program, and the Space Shuttle program.

It was here that he would meet his wife and soul mate, Betty. They were married at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville, February 12, 1982. After 31, years, they were still 'walking on air!' Bob & Betty were member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.

After a 35+ year successful career in Aeronautics and Cryogenics Engineering, Bob retired in 1990 from NASA/KSC and became a consultant with NASA/Houston for another 15+ years traveling to the various NASA facilities throughout the U.S. before fully retiring.

Among his many interests were building and flying Experimental aircraft. He received his private pilot's license in 1946 and was a member of various flying clubs in Colorado and Florida as well as the Experimental Aircraft Association. He built a 'Starlite' aircraft which he parked in their garage in the early 80's. He and his son, Gregory, spent many weekends flying and entering flying competitions, such as 'Sun & Fun' in Lakeland. Not one to sit idle, Bob could also be found at the Fitness Center most days working out & helping to organize exercise programs for Seniors; and attending various educational seminars onboard Ship.

Bob's greatest passion was cruising. He and Betty created a successful cruise business, Destination Cruise, which allowed them to enjoy their passion, and meet many friends from all over the world. Bob and Betty became Top Cruisers with RCCL with 89+ cruises over the years to favorite destinations such as St. Thomas, V.I., Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Bermuda, Hawaii, Alaska and many other countries.

His greatest honor was being invited to and attending the Space Coast Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. March 23, 2013, accompanied by his son-in-law, Phillip Carr, along with other WWII Veterans, to visit all the WWII Memorials which is a great tribute to all WWII veterans who gave so much for their country.

Bob is predeceased by his parents Alfred F. and Mildred L. Fischer, and brother Albert. He is survived by wife, Betty A. Fischer; children Beth A. Carr and husband Phil Carr, Gregory E. Hopper and wife Stacey Hopper, Deborah L. Ball and husband Carl Ball III; and will always be "Granddad" to Ryan L. Carr, Cpl. Brent E. Carr USMC and Granddaughter, Jacquelyn Grace Hopper, whom he loved so much. Many relatives, extended family, and friends onboard will miss him dearly as well.

Bob touched countless lives with his natural interest in others, easily making lifelong friends and bringing happiness to anyone he encountered. He will always be remembered for his warm personality and ever-present smile - with Betty, he lived life to the fullest with a zest for learning and good conversation. Bob was one of a kind!

A 'Celebration of Life' memorial service with Military Honors will be held August 10 at 10AM at Park Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. Peter Lord officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation, in Bob's honor, to the Space Coast World War II Veterans Honor Flight.

Per Bob's wishes, his ashes will be strewn in the bay in St. Thomas, U.S.
Virgin Islands and over the warbird Airfield in Titusville, Florida.
