In Honor of Michael D. McCormick; for service to his country and the legacy he leaves behind.

Michael Darold McCormick, 71, passed away on June 25th in Longwood, Florida.

Michael was preceded in death by his daughter Nicole and sisters Patricia and Regina, and a baby brother, Jeffery Brian.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lauren, and one sister Connie Roberts of Clermont, Florida and three children: Brandon, Daryl, and Kristine McCormick. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Connor, Nicholas, Harrison and Grace McCormick.

Michael was born on February 5, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Orlando while in third grade. After graduating Lyman High School in 1967, he joined the Marine Corps. His first duty assignment in 1968 was Khe Sanh, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. After Khe Sanh, he went on to lead a CAG (Commissioned Action Group). Two weeks before his tour of one year was over in Vietnam, he was severely wounded at Quang Tri.

Michael was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal with Silver Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and rifle qualification as marksman.

Michael enjoyed boating, fishing, and scuba diving in the Bahamas with his father-in-law and brother-in-law and later with his own family.

Mike was a family man in the truest sense. He always sacrificed things for himself so that his children never had to do without, or miss out on opportunities. He took an active role in every aspect of their lives which shaped them into the people they are today. He was always there as a father, with a wealth of love, knowledge, and life lessons. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, which afforded his children the happy childhoods full of fond memories they will be grateful for.

Following the service at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery there will be refreshments at the home of Kristine McCormick 1460 N. Leavitt Avenue, Orange City, Florida 32763.
