Carmen Salerno was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, USA on December 26, 1935.
She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus and then was a flight attendant for Easter Airlines. She married Arthur Anthony Salerno in Tampa, Florida at Christ the King Catholic Church on August 18, 1965.

Carmen was very active in the community and held membership in a number of organizations. These included the Tampa JR’s Womans Club, the Tampa Woman’s Club, the General Federation of Woman’s Club, the San Carlo Opera Company and Guild, the Florida Symphony in Tampa, the Sunset Park Garden Club as Publicity Chairman, Pink Lady at Tampa General Hospital, the American Cancer Society Guild as Treasurer, and both she and her husband, Art, were members of the Krew of Venus.

Carmen and Arthur attended Calvary Community Church and Bayside Community Church while in the Tampa area. After her husband as transferred to Longwood, Florida from Metropolitan Insurance Company as Regional Administrator, Carmen became active in the Wekiva Woman’s Club as a board member. Then she transferred to Sorosis of Orlando Woman’s Club, where she served as president from 1991 through 1993. During her administration, the club had a tree planted in their honor as the first club to have a public library in Orlando.

She went on to become a member of the country club at Heathrow, where she also became a board member of the Heathrow Woman’s Club and joined the Orlando Symphony Guild.

Both she and her husband attended First Baptist Church of Winter Park and were very active in Awana A Real Blessing. Other organizations she served within next include the Christian Woman’s Club, Stone Croft Ministries in Tampa, the board of Hearts of Gold in Tampa, the board of Florida Hospital North, a member and founder of the Red Cross Angels in Tampa, and the American Cancer Society in Orlando.She is a member of Neighborhood Alliance Church in Markham Woods Road in Longwood, Florida.

Carmen would like to extend a special thank you to her pastor, Mr. Tom Myers, for all his help and kindness when she needed it the most, as well as all of the members from N.A.C. for all of their kindness towards her.

We will leave you with Carmen’s favorite verse from the Bible, Jeremiah 33:3, which reads, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
