In Loving Memory of

Jarot David "Jerry" Monnett

1936 - 2015
Jarot David Monnett, “Jerry”, grew up as the oldest son of Vernon and Dorothy Monnett in Ohio, along with his siblings Barbara, Paul and Mary Lou. Life growing up revolved around large family gatherings full of traditions and meals rich with his mother’s Polish heritage. Those traditions and recipes have been passed down and are still practiced and enjoyed by all generations of the family. Most every birthday in the family includes a round of Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam and many holidays, especially Easter, must include polish kielbasa and pirogues-preferably homemade.
Jerry was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Sally, when they were young teenagers. They married soon after and began to raise their family of four – Butch (Jerry, Jr.), Debbie, Carrie and Kenny. In effort to provide his family with a better life, he packed up Sally and the kids, set off in a station wagon heading to Florida, supposedly the land of opportunity, with no real plan in mind. Things were not always easy. But Jerry was a dependable father that could always be counted on to find a way to provide for his family using his quick thinking, physical strength and sheer determination.

Jerry was a born salesman with a strong entrepreneurial nature that showed up very young in life. His father, Vernon, loved to tell stories of how he would watch Jerry “convince” his friends of the great opportunity he could offer them by allowing them to help mow the yard, or paint the fence, or whatever chore he had been assigned. Jerry continued to have a keen sense for inventive business ideas throughout his life – entering the recycle and bio-hazard businesses long before they were main stream. Jerry also had a keen eye for advantageous real estate investments – locating property in undeveloped areas, expecting to live in the relative quiet for years to come, but luckily to have them become valuable and commercially pursued.

Jerry’s business savvy enabled him to purchase a couple different vacation homes in the Great Smokey Mountains. Jerry and the family loved nature and the outdoors and have many wonderful memories of their different vacation visits, hikes, skiing and white-water rafting. Their love of the Smokey’s eventually brought Jerry and Sally to retire on their beloved “mountain” in Waynesville, North Carolina until their recent move to Melbourne with Carrie and Mark.
Jerry was a family man, true and true. He was deeply sentimental, loving and always wanted his family around him. His tough façade and continued effort to present the strong Fatherly in-control image, at times made it difficult for him to express his feelings. However his pride and love was well-known by his family and friends. (He might not tell it to your face, but he told it to everyone he knew.) Jerry loved each and every baby as it came into the family – kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. He seemed his happiest when he snatched them up, squeezed them and pestered them to no end. Laughing as loud as the little ones would squeal.

Jerry and Sally, both, reveled in their growing and changing family, as each child got married, started their own families and produced grandchildren, and then great grandchildren, for them to love. And even though at times the family was spread in many different directions, going through many different life changes and taking many different life paths, the foundation of the family remained solid with genuine pride, love and respect.

Jerry and Sally were blessed to have been married 61 years, living through thick and thin, good times and struggles, like most families. But by sticking together, being flexible, making changes that became required and still continuing to move forward, they provided an admirable example of a loving marriage and that it’s all worth it when it comes to family.
Jerry will be greatly missed by Sally, the family and friends. But all rejoice in the fact that he is now reunited with his greatly missed son, Butch, and other family members that have passed before him.

Until they are able to meet again, Jerry - our Husband/Dad/Grandpa/Gramps - will be greatly missed by Sally; Debbie Graff and family- Jim, Corey, Curt & Jacquelynn, Madison and Makaylin; Carrie Irwin and family – Mark, Fred, Christelle & Hannah, Kyle, Markie, Jodie and Chad, Loagan & Jacob; Kenny Monnett and family-Cindy, Nikki and baby Novalee, Danny and Catherine, Camden, Peyton & Tanner and Ryan; Kathy Monnett and family – Ali and Shane, Dylan & Blake and Dave – along with his two sisters, brother and many nieces and nephews.
