John "Garv" L. Garvey, Jr., 71, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 in Orlando, Florida with his wife, Gail and daughter, Wendy by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Garvey, Sr. and Alice K. (Luckey) Garvey.

John graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 1967. After graduation, he was drafted into the US Army, and went to Vietnam, and spent three years serving his country. After leaving the Army, John began dirt modified racing, and raced for many years at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New Lebanon, NY. He still enjoyed following the races today. John worked at Price Chopper Supermarket for over 20 years. His last position was Produce Manager. Due to extenuating circumstances he left the workforce in 1992.

He and Gail traveled to Orlando, where they began spending their winter seasons.

John loved fishing and golfing at Ventura Country Club in Orlando and was nicknamed "The Pickinator", due to the many hours spent working at the driving range. He also enjoyed harness races, casinos, garage sales and flea markets. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to being active in his Orlando community in Ventura Country Club, he was a past member of Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie, NY. He was a lifetime member of both the Fire Company and the VFW Post #9593 in Stuyvesant Falls, NY. He acquired many good friends throughout his life, both in New York State and Florida.

John is survived by his wife, Gail (Secovnie) Garvey; his daughter, Wendy Willis; his siblings, Carol (Jack) Qualteri, Karen (William) Vick, Gail (Dennis) Reutzel, and his sister-in-law Peggy (Lee) Shannon; along with many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his name can be made to the Stuyvesant Falls VFW Post #9593, 845 Hudson Ave, Stuyvesant Falls, NY 12174.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date for all of his many friends and family.
