Lum H. Garnett, Jr., son of Lum H. Garnett, Sr. and Erlinda L. Garnett, was born on August 20, 1949 in Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son, Damon Derek Garnett, and his sister Carolyn Adlan. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marie; his sons, Lum, and Gerard; daughters Ceira (Anthony), Larisana, and Barbara Carty; grandchildren Diamond, Sade, Amari, Anthony, Jr., Javonni Hartwell, Janiah Hartwell, Ariyah; one great-granddaughter Skhi; and godson Giovanni Rivera. He is also survived by his sisters Merly, Vivyan, Yvette, and Joy and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lum was educated in the Washington, D.C. public school system until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1967, where he proudly and faithfully served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. Lum received two Purple Hearts during his tours of duty and an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps for his courageous efforts during the war. Upon entering civilian life, Lum was employed as an electrical engineer until entering retirement in 2014.

On June 19, 1989, he married Marie Lou Francois. They later relocated to Orlando, Florida where they raised their family. Lum loved to spend his free time at the beach. He loved being a father and the role of grandfather elated him. After retirement, Lum spent time helping family care for his sister, Carolyn. He would give you the truth and make you laugh at the same time, he was well known for his sense of humor.

Lum departed this life on March 15, 2019. Lum has touched many lives. He will truly be missed by his family and close friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 20,2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32822.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
