Eugenia T. Mawn, 89, of Port St. John, FL passed away peacefully on December 29, 2014, surrounded by her family, at the Edward M. Poe Hospice Care Center in Titusville, FL. She was born on April 2, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York. Jean enjoyed attending dances at her local Catholic Church where she met her late husband, Harold Mawn, Jr. They were married in 1946 when Harold returned from military service in the Pacific. Jean entered the workforce as a secretary for Great Northern Paper Company. In order to raise her family on Long Island, she shifted careers and transitioned into the nursing home industry. Her family was often reminded of the joy she felt when interacting with the patients of St. James Nursing Home. Harold and Jean were happily married for 62 years until his death on August 23, 2009.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Cyndi) and Craig (Claudia); her grandchildren: Daniel, Kristina, Caitlin, Sean, Kerry and Becca; Claudia’s daughter Michelle, her cousin, Phyllis; and her New York nieces, nephews and cousins. Although Jean moved to Florida to be close to her children, her fondest memories were of Brooklyn, New York.

Jean was interested in antiques, but her passion was her Catholic faith. She loved saying the rosary, watching old movies, and felt great joy at seeing her grandchildren succeed in life. She was an avid viewer of the EWTN channel and a big fan of Mother Angelica. Eugenia was extremely thoughtful. She never forgot to recognize her loved one’s birthday or anniversary. She was “old school” and thought hand-written letters were best to send to family and friends. Her family was amazed that she saved every card sent to her.

The Mawn family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Edward M. Poe Hospice Care Center for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of St. Francis at 1250-B Grumman PL, Titusville, FL 32780.

No calling hours are scheduled. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Port St. John, FL on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be a private ceremony at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
