Vernon E. “Sonny” Lahee

Vernon E. “Sonny” Lahee, age 75, of Titusville, Florida passed away on November 17, 2016 at Hospice of Saint Frances in Titusville, Florida.

Sonny was born on November 13, 1941 in Frankfort, Indiana to Vernon O. and Ann (Benefiel) Lahee.

He was a graduate of Frankfort High School in 1961.

He married Emily R. Spray on November 25, 1964 and she survives him. Other survivors include daughter Annda Lea Kinsey (Bill) of Orange Park, Florida, son Vernon Paul Lahee (Cathy) of Titusville, Florida, grandson Vernon Paul Lahee, Jr., and a great granddaughter Malia Maria Lahee also of Titusville, Florida. He is also survived by nephew Craig Smalley of Orlando, Florida and brother Jim Lahee of Russiaville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane Smalley of Orlando, Florida and nephew Greg Smalley of Orlando, Florida.

Sonny was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed building and racing hot rods, as well as restoring and modifying classic muscle cars. His large collection of trophies and special awards reflect this life long passion.

After his retirement from United Space Alliance of Kennedy Space Center, he became interested in advanced woodworking and soon became a talented craftsman, utilizing scroll saws and other specialized woodworking tools. He created many beautiful, complex, and unique pieces of art that he shared with his family and friends. He was passionate about sharing special themed art pieces with fellow patients, nurses and caregivers of the Titusville American Cancer Society and affiliate branches located in his hometown of Frankfort, Indiana and neighboring cities close to his hometown.

Goodwin Funeral Home of Frankfort, Indiana is assisting the family locally, and Newcomer Funeral Home in Titusville, Florida is handling his final arrangements.

No public services will be held; however, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
