Each individual’s life is a complex and beautiful weave of relationships, friendships, hobbies, and experiences that give the people around them a glimpse of what defines them. Over the course of Gary’s life he has worn many hats; devoted husband, understanding father, intelligent co-worker, laid back guy from New Jersey, exercise enthusiast, actor, photographer, craftsmen, long distance bike rider, man of faith, comedian, and so on. Needless to say, no matter the situation Gary would and could add value to the conversation, and oftentimes provide you with a solution you never even thought of.
A true family man in all sense of the term, Gary Lewis dedicated his life to his family. First and foremost he was absolutely madly and deeply in love with his wife Patricia Lewis. The two of them raised a family as a true team, each of them assisting one another in all situations. Watching their relationship over the years it was most impressive to see their love be paramount even as their children grew older, graduated from school, moved out and even moved away. No matter what changed, their love endured and was strengthened. The love that they shared was cultivated and grown as their family did. Gary Lewis provided for his family, and his family knew and appreciated his work ethic and dedication. He provided his son’s a perfect template of what a father and husband should be, how to handle themselves, and how to live life to the fullest.
All who knew Gary associated him with the space program. His adult life was spent doing his part in preparing and launching numerous space shuttles and rockets at the space center. Everyone that was a part of the space program seemed to have a true sense that they were a part of something great, something special, and something that would be marked in history with each launch. Gary was no different as he took pride in his work, his friendships, and the launch teams accomplishments. We can still picture him walking in the door to the family house wearing a huge grin and beaming energy radiating off of him after launch days.
The same feelings that Gary had about the space program: being in the presence of something great, something special, and knowing you will remember an experience forever were the same feelings that each person had when they interacted with Gary. He was a great man and he impacted each one of our lives differently. So when we remember Gary, remember him in a way that he brought you joy, happiness and love, because he undoubtedly did it in a way that was individual to you and him. Thank you Gary for all that you are! We love you so very much. Rest in peace G-Man.
