Dear Lucille & John's Family

I don't even know where to begin I am lost for words that I had just found out the loss of one great man who my dad (Jimmy the barber) cherished him... not only did my dad work with him but they were best of friends for many many years they had done so much together and dad always had nice things to say about him not only did my dad hang around with him my mother did too... my mom my dad myself and my husband would love to spend time with John and you Lucille.. when we would go down to Florida we had the best of times visting and going out all of us together...we would laugh and joke and reminice about old and new times...always loved his company and all his funny crazy stories...may he rip and now I know he has to be up there making my dad and mom laughing and having a good old time...with sincerest condolences to you Lucille, Cindy, Wendy and Vinny

In reality, a second cousin.......but much, much more. Referred to as Uncle John, a close friend and like a second father.
John I view as being the last of my senior family members. I will never forget all the GOOD TIMES, advice, help and open hospitality. You were the only person I've known who could make people laugh even when they were down and depressed. That will be missed by all and cannot be replaced.

John you are the love of my life. I miss not seeing and talking to you. You taught me to laugh, smile and love again and I will always remember that and I am so thankful. We have so many memories that are truly great. The one thing that still makes me smile is when you brought our Gidget home to me, she was the best present anyone could have ever given me. It was love at first sight for her and I, then when you had me add our names to the list of 2500 people who wanted our Sheba and we were the lucky ones to have adopted her. John thank you for always giving me the go ahead for adopting all of our for legged babies. The way you loved and cared for me will be in my heart forever and could never be matched. Lucy, my heartaches for your loss. I have never seen a couple made for each other more then the two of you. In time, you will celebrate the years you walked together on this earth and smile. May all the memories and laughter soothe your heartache and wrap you in love. My condolences to Cindy, Wendy, Vinny and the grandchildren he loved so much. A part of him will live on in you.

All my memories of being with Cousin John are filled laughter. He was a big man with a big presence. Family and friends gravitated around him hoping to catch some of whatever he had that made being near him, amusing and fun. John could say and do things that most people would not be able to pull off without criticism. When John added his unique lovable style and his immense sense of humor, he made it hilarious. And if you needed anything, he was the first to be there for you.
I have many memories of sharing family gatherings, camping excursions, card games, and just hanging out with my Mom and Dad as hours passed. I know John was my Mom’s favorite cousin. They were very close. So close in fact, that I remember a curtain story about him sleeping (ha-ha) during a family gathering. There was a red bow involved and my Mom had the honor of tying it on him. I would not think of writing this on anyone else’s memorial, but, this is John. I know he and my Mom are laughing right now. I love you, John. Loved by so many, you will be missed in this world. Rest in Peace Cousin or at least have FUN!

Lucy and family. I’m so very sorry for your loss. John was an extraordinarily entertaining man who could tell a story that would always make me (and everyone else) laugh. I will remember him with a smile on his face and that beautiful Florida tan. You both were so good to have me stay over more than once and always made me feel at home. I’ll never forget how I came to your house then later that week we surprised Lizzie for her 50th birthday. Also the time we stayed with you and mixed the M&M’s with the popcorn while devouring a case of wine between the 5 of us. So many laughs. There are too many memories I had with my wonderful poppy. He was too great of a man to just have one memory with. But I will tell you one of my favorites, and forgive me for the language but he wouldn't want it told any other way.

I came down to Florida and my grandmother bought us both the same salmon Eddie Bauer t-shirt. We all decided to go out to eat that night so we all went to get ready and dressed. While Wuwu, aka Lucy, was calling us to get our behinds in the car, we both walk out of our bedrooms and we both have on the same t-shirt she bought us only hours earlier. Completely unplanned; caught us both off guard. So we are both looking at each other wondering if the other one is going to take off the shirt and change, but good old Poppy smirks and winks at me and says..... F*** it. Can't help it that we are good looking men....let's go!!

I love you Pop and will forever hold every memory we shared together. I know you'll be walking along side me as I live my life. I love you so much and will never forget you

There are so many memories of my Uncle John that it’s nearly impossible to pick just one.

His love for his wife and his family especially his sisters was always evident. He also had love for his animals and having been married to Lucy that would be hard not to have.

You could never be sad or depressed around my Uncle John. He has the ability to make you laugh even at yourself!! I can remember times where I thought I would wet my pants from those deep belly laughs we shared

Their home was always open to everyone and then some. I went to their house in Punta Gorda once with 2 friends for the weekend. We polished off 5 bottles of wine on the back patio and stayed up half the night. We had sooo many laughs. My friend said to me the next day “Why didn’t you tell me your family was so much fun?” I told her “This is normal for us. It’s like this all the time.”

I know that he is in a better place with his siblings and his dogs. However my life will not be the same without him. I called him for advice on everything. I feel like I have lost one of my best friends as well as my favorite Uncle

Give my parents my a big hug for me and have a beer with my Dad. I know he would enjoy that.

Until we see each other again Uncle John. You will be in my thoughts and in my heart always.

When reflecting on this loss, I realized that each memory, in the flood of memories, caused a smile. John was a man who could pull off charismatic, irreverence with quick wit and a warm heart. He was a man who could make those he cared about feel loved and at ease. He was a man with whom you would much rather be friends than not. He was a man who loved his family, friends and especially, his wife. He had his flaws and shortcomings. We all do.

There are so many more things that can be said. However, just one more to sum it up. Life has been made better, by the time shared with him, and that will stay with me for as long as I live. My goal is to pass that on.

My Uncle John meant the world to me. He was one of the best, one of the most kind hearted and one of the funniest men I ever knew. He was a big part of my life for 58 years, wow time flys. I wish we had more time together.  I could count on my Uncle John for anything , like the time my mom ( Patricia Quinn Babb) asked me who I wanted to be my sponser for my confirmation I chose the coolest guy I knew, my Uncle John. He was 26 at the time. I called him in Connecticut from Tucson. I said Uncle John will you be my sponser? he told me he'd be there just like that I knew he would. He flew 3000 miles just for me. I was the happiest 14 year old in church that day because I had the coolest sponser of all. He always made me feel special every time I was around him. I could never get enough Uncle John, it was always fun fun fun. Because of his love of western movies I gave him the nickname Johnny West .I will miss Uncle John Very Very much. UJohn will live in my hart forever. I want to send my love to my Aunt Lucy, Aunt Bev. And to Wendy, Cindy and Vinny. Peter , Frankie and Danny, And all the Quinn's. RIP Uncle John / Johnny West.

There are so many memories I can share. My dad definitely made some extremely funny memories for me to share so I have decided to share three. One from when I was younger and one from before he was sick and one from recently.

When he was teaching me how to drive in our station wagon and I took a corner to tight had the car on two wheels and when we landed I said wow you didn’t yell he looked at me and said Wendy pull into the house wait here, he comes out of the house gets in the car reclines the seat pours himself a glass of wine and says ok drive.

My dad Lucy and I would go to Neptune’s (a bar) on Thursdays and after a few drinks my dad(which I am sure you all know would normally NEVER sing) would get up with me and sing kareok the song would be play that funkie music white boy. He was in charge of hitting the high notes.

My last memory I would like to share is after he was home bound he and I would play yatzee almost everyday and at least 4 games. He was so happy when he would win but to see him throw his arms in the air and yell YATZEE was thrilling,
We even called a dice move the JQ move.

Dad I will miss you forever you were not only my dad but my best friend. I will always love you and miss you

My favorite memory was when John and I talked for almost 2 hours in his garage, when no one else new where we were.

Monte's favorite memory was when he was helping John with the storm shutters, so we can go over to the West Coast due to the Hurricane, and then had to come home since we forgot medications.

Our dear Johnny Boy as Ralph called him became good friends when he married Sandy (Lucy’s cousin). We did a lot of things family do. Eat travel eat drink and have fun. John made me laugh and I mean gut laugh because he always had his view on any situation that came along. Lucille is a great cook and enjoyed basically loved being together. Our BIG trip was to Italy. Fun,fun,fun. He loved Bobby and Kendra and made me so happy seeing them together. He will be miss more than he ever imagined. He was loving,generous,funny and will be missed. John was always there to help when ever needed even when he himself was hurting. I will miss John and know he is a better place. Love to John’s family. I know he meant so much to them. His wife Lucille was his life and didn’t mind showing it. Love you John. ????
