David L. Willoughby Sr. died on April 17, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Richmond Virginia on July 3, 1936 to the late John and Henritta (Becote) Willoughby. He received his education in the Richmond public school system where he graduated from Vandevyver Catholic High School before entering the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut with his first wife, Joyce Willoughby. Together they had 3 children. He subsequently had 2 children with his second wife Vernell Denise Reid-Willoughby. David went on to work for The Armstrong Rubber Company, the New Haven Housing Authority (as a police officer and later a housing authority administrator), as an independent Realtor, Tractor Trailer Driver for the Trailer Bridge Company and the Guardsmen Security Company, along with many other entrepreneurial pursuits before retiring to Orlando, Florida.

He is past Grand Master of the historic Widow’s Son Lodge #1 in New Haven, CT.

He is survived by his children, Terry Edmundson (Isaac), David Willoughby Jr. (Crystal) and Janice Carter (Fred), all of Baltimore; John Willoughby of Orlando and Joseph Willoughby of New Haven; 2 sisters, Elinor ‘Margie’ McMillan of Orlando, and Dorothy Mae Miller of Richmond; grandsons Spencer Carter and Zachary Carter; beloved nephews Anthony McMillan, Pinky Clinkscales (Mary) and Isaiah Evans Jr. (Sherrie). Also a host of beloved relatives and friends.
He is predeceased by 3 sisters, Jean Willoughby, Nora Lee Clinkscales (Pinky), and Virginia Shaw (Elmo), niece Joyce Marie Turaki (Bello) and nephew Robert Clinkscales (Barbara).

David was a versatile and extraordinary businessman.He also loved being the apprentice to his father John for many years who was a master carpenter. He loved his family and friends passionately and enjoyed life to the fullest.

One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Orlando), 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32822.

Visitation is Tuesday, April 24 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

Graveside services will be on Tuesday, April 24 at 2:00 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
