Joyce Arlene Chumbley, age 79, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Joyce was born on June 2, 1938 in Indianola, IA. She was the only child of Ivan and Ada Claire (Ellis) Chumbley. Joyce lived and grew up in Northern California, studied in Hawaii, traveled to Europe with her parents, and moved to Orlando in early 1972.

Joyce earned a BA in fine arts while graduating cum laude from Ithaca College in 1960, her Masters in art from San Francisco State College in 1962, and her PhD in drama and theatre from the University of Hawaii in 1972. She started teaching at Jones College in Orlando, eventually rising to the position of Dean of the College.

Joyce had a rich and varied life. She was well-read and was dedicated to the arts and to work for social justice, worker rights, and environmental protection. She belonged to, participated in and started many organizations and groups, and did extensive research on topics of peace and justice. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and colleagues.

A memorial visitation and service will be held on June 2, 2018 from 3pm to 5pm at Langford Park, 1808 E Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32803.
