Betty Arbutus “Boots” Bumgardner, 87, passed away peacefully in Titusville, FL in the company of her daughters Linda Hofmann, Dreama Poff and granddaughter Jessica Jones on February 18 th, 2018.

Boots was born on May 7th, 1930 in Charleston, West Virginia, to Reverend William John and Ruby Fowler. She had eight siblings, William Paul, Sarah Marie, Helen (Tinsley), Dorothy (Elkins), Ester, Orville, James Eugene and Vernon. Boots felt very blessed to be given such a wonderful loving Christian family; a mother and Dad that were unselfish, loving, faithful, who made many sacrifices so that their children could grow up to be the best that they could be. This was the foundation for the “Legacy of Love”.

Boots was married to the love of her life Albert F. Bumgardner. They met and fell in love while Freddie (as she called him) was home on leave from the Air Force. She would say that they fell in love “Pretty Quick”, they started dating when she was working at the Kroger Warehouse in 1951. They were married on December 16, 1952, in Malden West Virginia. After being discharged from the service, Freddie took a job working for North American Aviation and moved his lovely bride to Columbus Ohio. This is where they got their first home (a trailer parked in the middle of a corn field) and the lovely bride became a devoted Mother of 5 kids (3 girls & 2 boys). They were proud of each of the kids, Boots and Freddie enjoyed their kids. They were role models for them, they taught them to play by the rules, to be caring, to trust in Jesus, to be honest and loving. They continued building upon the “Legacy of Love”.

In 1966, Freddie relocated the family to Florida. At Kennedy Space Center (KSC) he worked on NASA’s Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. After 40 years serving as a custodian of America’s national treasure (the Space Shuttles), Freddie retired in 1993 and moved his lovely bride (of 41 years) to La Follette Tennessee. He got his “orders from head-quarters”, for Boots wanted to retire in the Mountains of Tennessee. And Freddie always wanted her to be happy.

Boots loved Tennessee, she loved the mountain views, going on picnics with Billy and Shirley, playing in the snow with the grand kids, having raging fires in the fireplace, feeding the stray animals and preparing delicious country meals with fresh vegetables from Freddie’s garden. After 21 years in La Follette, they moved back to Titusville to be closer to the family. On the day they returned, they were welcomed with double Rainbows (Gods promise) over the Indian River. Nearly a year later, after 62 years of marriage, Freddie passed away peacefully with his loving wife Boots by his side.
Boots was lost without Freddie, but she was also an amazing woman of faith, and she was a fighter, she loved and trusted in the Lord and in His timing. God knew that Boots longed to be with Freddie again, so on Sunday, February 18, 2018, He called her, home to Heaven to be with Freddie again for eternity.

Betty Arbutus “Boots” Bumgardner was an amazing woman of faith. She is survived by sister Dorothy Elkins, sons Kenny & Kevin Bumgardner, daughters, Dreama Poff & husband Kenny, Linda Hofmann & husband Richard. She is a Cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren and their spouses (Becky & Jason McKee, Chris Bolton, Heather & Todd Gibson, Kenny Bumgardner, Bryan & Erica Bumgardner, Jessica & Charlie Jones, Lee & Mistie, Raymond & Ryan Hofmann & Kameron Poff). She leaves behind many great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and many loving nieces, nephews, and a precious extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Debra Bolton and grandson Jason Bolton.
She leaves her family with the “Legacy of Love” to carry on …. She taught us love, she taught us faith, she taught us how to stand our ground, she gave us strength, she gave us might. For ALL of us she gave her best.

As she enters into glory she can say “I have fought the good fight, I finished the race, I have kept my faith… (2 Timothy 4:7-8)”
