Jackie Vancelette
"The Angel Lady"

Known throughout the Orlando area for giving out tiny angel pins indiscriminately, in the hope of, as she put it, "Making the world a little better place", Jackie, also a frequent visitor to the homeless who congregate around Lake Eola, passed out her "Buck for Luck" cakes- tiny sweets with a dollar attached. But that was only the tip of the iceberg known as Jackie Vancelette.

Jackie and her late husband David loved animals and established ABCAL (Animal Betterment Citizen's Action League). Additionally Jackie and Dave were instrumental in establishing a school of veterinary medicine at Tufts University and were lauded by a special emissary to Orlando on the school's 25th anniversary.

Together the two established the Theatre East Playhouse in Salem, MA, where Jackie's natural talents led to playwright and musical composition. Her musical HELL's BELLS! was critically acknowledged as was her drama PIECES which became a candidate for the 93-94 Pulitzer Prize in drama. Jackie was a columnist for the Lynn, MA Daily Item, and a drama critic for the New England Entertainment Digest (NEED). She has written several plays and books, one of which, MARGI, DYING ALIVE (PublishAmerica) was a fictionalization of the Terri Schiavo case.

Deeply Spiritual, Jackie founded several self-help groups in the Boston area. Here in Orlando, when she learned of her husband's terminal illness, she started COGSS (Care or Grievers Support System) writing a book about her experiences in care giving. She also taught her own system of meditation (Dhyana) at the Renaissance Center on Econ Trail. After her husband's passing, she penned the play APOCRYPHA, recounting the experiences leading up to his death.

Visitation will be at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, FL on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. Interment of Jackie's ashes will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, on the site of her late husband's grave.

She leaves a daughter, Kathleen Morlock of Seattle, Washington.
