Lt. Col. (Ret.) Edward (Buzz) Wilson DuRant III, 70, of Longwood, FL, passed away on October 16, 2017 after a long battle with PSP. The funeral service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Edward was born in Quantico, VA on June 28, 1947. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Andrew’s University and received a MPA from East Carolina University.

Edward was married to Patricia Grill on August 15, 1981; they were married 36 years.
Edward spent the majority of his career as a faithful servant to our country as an officer in the US Army Medical Service Corps. He completed numerous marathons and triathlons and enjoyed golfing and traveling the world. In his retirement, he served as a volunteer for Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs.

Edward is survived by his wife Patricia, grandchildren Ethan and Ellie DuRant and Julianna and John Roberts, his sister Margaret DuRant of Ann Arbor, MI, and children Edward DuRant (Jessica) of Cape Coral and Anna Roberts (Andrew) of Acton, MA and other family and friends including Levi the wonder dog.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Col. Edward Wilson DuRant II and Peggy Vanness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs or Cure PSP.
The DuRant family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers and Hospice of the Comforter for their kind support.

Dear Pat and Family,
I just now received the news about Ed. In all my years of service, I never met a finer officer. I always looked forward to our group meetings knowing that Ed would be there. I very much admired Ed’s gift for plain speaking. He also had a dry sense of humor that I enjoyed very much. May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special as Ed will never be forgotten.

I just learned of Ed’s passing, so sorry to hear this, I always considered Ed a good friend and office mate while working in the ARNG Surgeon’s Office. He was the first to indoctrinate me to my assisgment, something I will always remember. We often traded running stories as we both had the same interest. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this moment of sorrow.

Buzz's last months were days of suffering, but I choose to remember the fun loving man who wrestled with my young son (to his delight) on my living room floor. I choose to remember a man who loved his country and his service in its military. I will remember Buzz as a man who loved and cherished his wife, Pat. I choose to remember a strong, healthy Buzz who took care of himself as an athlete and would choose to run up a mountain road just because it was a challenge. I will miss this brother. I thank God for the opportunity to have known him, and I pray this same loving God will bless Buzz's family and friends with supreme comfort.
